Substitutes:
- Gin: If you don't have Gin, try using vodka for a cleaner taste. I've also used white rum for a different but enjoyable twist.
- Lemon Juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice is best, but bottled lemon juice works in a pinch. Lime juice can also be an exciting alternative.
- Simple Syrup: You can make your simple syrup by dissolving equal parts sugar and water over low heat. Honey syrup (honey mixed with water) adds a unique flavor, too.
- Angostura Bitters: If you're out of Angostura bitters, try the orange or aromatic bitters you have on hand.
Making a Pitcher of Fitzgerald Cocktail:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of Gin, 6 oz of lemon juice, 6 oz of simple syrup, and 16 dashes of Angostura bitters.
- Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the Gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, and Angostura bitters. Stir well.
- Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled Old Fashioned glasses, garnish with a lemon twist, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Gin Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic gin substitute; these are available and reasonably mimic Gin's botanicals.
- Proceed As Usual: Use the non-alcoholic gin substitute instead of regular Gin, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
