Notes

Substitutes:

  • Tequila: If you're out of Tequila, try using mezcal for a smokier flavor profile or a white rum for a lighter, more subtle taste.
  • Crème de Cassis: Raspberry liqueur can be used as a substitute if you can't find crème de cassis. It's less sweet, so you might want to adjust the amount of lime juice accordingly.
  • Ginger Beer: If you don't have ginger beer on hand, ginger ale can work in a pinch, though it will make the drink sweeter and less spicy.

Making a Pitcher of El Diablo:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 12 oz of Tequila, 4 oz of crème de cassis, and 4 oz of fresh lime juice. Top off with ginger beer to taste.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the tequila, crème de cassis, and lime juice. Stir well.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled highball glasses, top off with ginger beer, garnish with a lime wheel or twist, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Tequila Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic tequila substitute; these are available and do a good job mimicking Tequila's flavor.
  • Crème de Cassis Substitute: Opt for a blackcurrant cordial or a simple syrup with some blackcurrant juice.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

This cocktail is already vegan-friendly as it doesn't contain any animal products. Just ensure that the specific brands of alcohol you're using are vegan, as some brands may use animal products in their processing methods.
