  • Ice cubes

Equipment

  • Old Fashioned Glass
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Stirrer or Bar Spoon

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill your Old Fashioned glass with ice cubes.
  • Add Lemon Juice: Pour in ½ oz fresh lemon juice.
  • Add Vanilla Syrup: Add ½ oz vanilla syrup to the mix.
  • Add Limoncello: Measure and pour 1 oz Limoncellointo the glass.
  • Add Vodka: Pour 1 oz Vodka over the ice.
  • Stir Gently: Use a bar spoon to stir the ingredients gently.
  • Garnish: Place a lemon slice or twist into the glass for garnish.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Vodka: If you don't have Vodka, use gin or white rum, both will deliver a different but still a delicious flavour.
  • Limoncello: If needed, you can substitute Limoncello with triple sec or another citrus liqueur. It changes the flavor slightly but still works well.
  • Vanilla Syrup: If you run out of vanilla syrup, use simple syrup with a drop of vanilla extract. I've also used honey syrup for a different but delightful sweetness.
  • Lemon Juice: Fresh lemon juice is best, but bottled lemon juice works in a pinch. Lime juice can also be an exciting twist.

Making a Pitcher of DMC Drink:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 8 oz of Vodka, 8 oz of Limoncello, 4 oz of vanilla syrup, and 4 oz of lemon juice.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the Vodka, Limoncello, vanilla syrup, and lemon juice. Stir well.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled Old Fashioned glasses, garnish with a lemon slice or twist, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Vodka Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic vodka substitute; these are available and mimic Vodka's neutral profile quite well.
  • Limoncello Substitute: Opt for a non-alcoholic citrus aperitif or make a simple syrup infused with lemon zest and orange essence.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

  • Vanilla Syrup Substitute: Ensure your vanilla syrup is vegan-friendly; some commercial syrups may contain animal-derived ingredients like honey. Alternatively, make your own using sugar, water, and vanilla extract.
  • Proceed As Usual: Follow the original steps using vegan-friendly ingredients to enjoy a vegan version of this refreshing cocktail.
