Ingredients

  • oz Vodka
  • 4 oz cranberry juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedge - for garnish, optional

Equipment

  • Highball Glass
  • Measuring Jigger
  • Stirrer or Bar Spoon

Instructions

  • Prep Glass: Fill your highball glass with ice cubes.
  • Add Vodka: Pour 1½ oz Vodka over the ice.
  • Add Cranberry Juice: Pour 4 oz cranberry juice into the glass.
  • Stir Gently: Use a bar spoon to stir the ingredients gently.
  • Garnish: Squeeze and drop a lime wedge into the glass for garnish.

Notes

Substitutes:

  • Vodka: When I don't have vodka, I use gin. It gives a more botanical flavor to the drink. White rum also works well, offering a sweeter and smoother taste.
  • Cranberry Juice: In the absence of cranberry juice, I've used pomegranate juice. It has a different but delightful taste, slightly sweeter and less tart.

Making a Pitcher:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 12 oz of vodka and 32 oz of cranberry juice.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the vodka and cranberry juice. Stir well.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled highball glasses, garnish with a lime wedge, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Vodka Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic vodka substitute.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use the non-alcoholic substitute instead of the regular vodka, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.

Making it Vegan:

  • Check Ingredients: Ensure that the cranberry juice used is vegan. Some juices use animal-derived ingredients like gelatin or honey. Opt for a brand that doesn't use these ingredients.
  • Serve: Once you have a vegan cranberry juice, follow the original steps and enjoy a vegan version.
