Substitutes:
- Gin: Vodka can be a good substitute if you don't have Gin. It will give the cocktail a smoother taste without the botanical notes of Gin.
- Sweet Vermouth: You can use fortified wine as a substitute for sweet vermouth if needed. It will change the flavor but will still deliver a nice concoction. has a similar flavor profile but is slightly more bitter.
- Dry Vermouth: White vermouth can be used in place of dry vermouth. It's less dry but still provides a nice balance to the sweetness of the other ingredients.
- Orange Juice: If fresh oranges aren't available, you can use store-bought orange juice. Just make sure it's 100% juice with no added sugars.
- Orange bitters: you can either omit the orange bitters or experiment with other citrus bitters.
Making a Pitcher of Bronx Cocktail:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 12 oz of Gin, 6 oz of sweet vermouth, 6 oz of dry vermouth, 8 dashes of orange bitters, and 8 oz of orange juice.
- Mix: Combine all the ingredients with ice in a large pitcher and stir well.
- Serve: Pour the mixture into individual chilled martini glasses, garnish with an orange twist, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Gin Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic gin substitute. Several brands are available that mimic Gin's flavor without the alcohol.
- Vermouth Substitute: You can use non-alcoholic white grape juice for both sweet and dry vermouth. It won't have the same complexity as vermouth but will provide a similar sweetness.
- Orange bitters substitute: Try with orange essence, it will give to the drink a bright and zesty aroma.
- Proceed As Usual: Use these non-alcoholic substitutes instead of the regular ingredients and follow the original steps to enjoy a non-alcoholic version of this cocktail.
Making it Vegan:
This cocktail is already vegan-friendly as it doesn't contain any animal products. Just use fresh orange juice or store-bought juice that contains no added sugars or honey.
