Notes

Substitutes:

  • Brandy: If you don't have brandy, you can use whiskey or rum as a substitute. Both will give a different flavor profile but still work well in this cocktail.
  • Lemon Juice: Lime juice can be used instead of lemon juice if needed. It will add a slightly different tanginess to the drink.
  • Sugar: If you're out of sugar, honey or agave syrup can be used as sweeteners. They will add their unique flavors to the cocktail.

Making a Pitcher of Brandy Sling:

  • Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of brandy, 4 oz of lemon juice, and 8 tsp of sugar.
  • Mix: In a large pitcher, combine the brandy, lemon juice, and sugar. Stir well until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled highball glasses, top with soda water, garnish with a lemon slice and cherry, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Brandy Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic brandy substitute available in some specialty stores or online.
  • Proceed As Usual: Use this non-alcoholic substitute instead of the regular brandy, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version of this classic cocktail.

Making it Vegan:

  • Sugar Substitute: Ensure your sugar is vegan-friendly, as some sugars are processed using bone char. Alternatively, use agave syrup as a naturally vegan sweetener.
  • Proceed As Usual: With this minor adjustment, you can enjoy a vegan version of this delicious cocktail.
