Substitutes:
- Tequila: If you're out of Tequila, vodka is an excellent substitute for a classic Bloody Mary. For a smoky twist, try mezcal.
- Tomato Juice: Vegetable or carrot juice can be used as an alternative to tomato juice, but it will change the flavor profile significantly.
- Worcestershire Sauce: Soy sauce or tamari can be used as a substitute for Worcestershire sauce if needed.
Making a Pitcher of Bloody Maria:
- Scale: To make a pitcher that serves 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That would be 16 oz of Tequila, 32 oz of tomato juice, 4 oz of lemon juice, 4 bar spoons of Horseradish sauce, and 16 dashes each of Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce.
- Mix: In a large pitcher, combine all the ingredients. Stir well.
- Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled highball glasses, garnish with a celery stalk and a lemon wedge, and serve immediately.
Making it Non-Alcoholic:
- Tequila Substitute: Use a non-alcoholic tequila substitute available on the market.
- Proceed As Usual: Use this non-alcoholic substitute instead of the regular Tequila, follow the original steps, and enjoy a non-alcoholic version.
Making it Vegan:

- Horseradish sauce Substitute: Often horseradish sauce contains cream or egg, make sure to use a brand that's vegan friendly.
- Proceed As Usual: Use this vegan-friendly substitute instead of the regular Worcestershire sauce, follow the original steps, and enjoy a vegan Bloody Maria.
