Notes

Substitutes:

I've had moments when I didn't have all the specific liqueurs. Here's what worked for me:
  • Southern Comfort: You can use whiskey as a substitute. It won't capture the unique flavors of Southern Comfort but will still add a kick.
  • Amaretto: A blend of almond extract and a neutral spirit can mimic the almond flavors of Amaretto.
  • Sloe Gin: Regular gin with a splash of blackcurrant cordial can fill in, although you'll miss that deep red color.

Making a Pitcher of Alabama Slammer:

  • Scale: To serve 8, multiply all the ingredients by 8. That's 8 oz each of Southern Comfort, Amaretto, Sloe Gin, plus 16 oz of orange juice.
  • Mix: Combine all these in a large pitcher and stir well.
  • Serve: Pour the mixture into ice-filled highball glasses, garnish as desired, and serve immediately.

Making it Non-Alcoholic:

  • Southern Comfort Substitute: Use non-alcoholic peach syrup.
  • Amaretto Substitute: Opt for non-alcoholic almond syrup.
  • Sloe Gin Substitute: Use a mix of pomegranate juice and a touch of lemon.
  • Proceed As Usual: Replace the alcoholic ingredients with these non-alcoholic substitutes and follow the original steps.

Making it Vegan:

The standard Alabama Slammer recipe is vegan-friendly, as it contains no animal products. Double-check that your Amaretto doesn't use non-vegan coloring or additives, which is generally not a concern.
